The Papers plugin simplifies the process of bringing academic research into your notes by connecting directly with the arXiv API. With a single query, you can search using either a paper title or a direct arXiv link, then generate a note populated with key details like the title, author list, publication year, and source URL. Beyond metadata, it can also fetch the corresponding PDF and embed it within the note, making both references and full texts easily accessible in one place. This allows researchers, students, or anyone exploring scientific literature to maintain a structured and well-organised collection of papers inside their vault without juggling external tools.

Papers for Obsidian

Papers is a simple plugin that retrieves and imports research papers into Obsidian. It queries the arXiv API to download PDFs and save metadata directly into your vault.

Usage

Papers has one key function: search for a paper, then create a new note with its metadata. The search query can either be

  1. arXiv URL: A direct link to the paper (e.g., https://arxiv.org/abs/1706.03762).
  2. Title: The paper title, which is used to fuzzy search arXiv and prompt the user to choose among results.

The resulting note metadata includes paper title, authors, publication year, and URL. We can download the PDF and embed it in the note as well.
